Field Service Engineer
Reports to: Director, Field Service
Location: South – East USA
Under minimal supervision, this position provides field service support to customers, which includes the installation, diagnosis and repair of the NEXUS Universal Store™, Universal BioStore™, and Universal LabStore™ lines of sample management equipment.
Tasks and Responsibilities:
- Conducts installation of NEXUS equipment at customer sites.
- Travels to customer sites to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair issues, and perform preventive maintenance.
- Evaluates the proper performance, alignment and smooth operation of mechanical assemblies.
- Uses a meter and scope to diagnose electrical problems down to a signal level.
- Completes and submits all necessary documentation for all work performed.
- Maintains company-supplied tools and equipment.
- Provides accurate, articulate and timely reports of activity to management.
- Presents a positive and professional appearance to potential and existing customers; may represent the company at meetings and tradeshows.
- Travels up to 100% as needed to respond to service issues; may travel up to 50% of the time in the Boston area; may also travel to Maryland, Iowa, Florida and other domestic locations as assigned.
- May occasionally be required to travel internationally
- Attends training in Southern California as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
- Ability to read and interpret various electrical schematics, wiring diagrams and reference manuals.
- Knowledge of basic electronic theory.
- Knowledge of PC hardware.
- Ability to troubleshoot PC startup and operational issues.
- Knowledge of PC components such as network interface cards, serial ports, USB connections and other peripherals.
- Proficient user of Microsoft Windows and Excel.
- Understanding of networking, Visual Basic, CAN and a variety of proprietary motion control and other automation applications preferred.
- Exceptional oral and written communication skills.
